A little further away stands the rocky outcrop of Brentor, surmounted by the 13th century church of St Michael de Rupe - a short climb from the car park on the road at the bottom takes the visitor to a commanding panoramic view across west Devon and north Cornwall.
Beaches and Day Trips
The South West Coast Path and the surfing beaches of North Cornwall and the sandy family beaches of South Cornwall are within 45 minutes drive. For those wishing to explore further afield, the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and a host of National Trust houses and gardens, including Cotehele, Buckland Abbey and Lanhydrock House, are easily accessible by road.
Lydford has three places to eat: the Dartmoor Inn, an award winning pub, the Castle Inn, which featured in the film of the Hound of the Baskervilles, and a tea room and light refreshments at Lydford House. Close by at Bridestowe are the Fox and Hounds and White Hart pubs.
